School Life

Days full of learning, laughter, friendship, and growth

A Day At St. Athanasius

Every day at St. Athanasius is different, and that is by design. Children thrive when their days are structured but not rigid, when they are challenged but not overwhelmed, and when they have time for both serious work and genuine play. The school day begins with morning devotions that bring the whole community together in prayer and reflection. There is something grounding about starting the day this way. It sets a tone of gratitude and shared purpose that carries through everything that follows.
Then the learning begins. Classrooms come alive with discussion, problem-solving, reading, writing, and discovery. Our teachers are energetic and engaged, and their enthusiasm is infectious.
After academic sessions, children move into physical activities, creative arts, or extracurricular programs depending on the day. Mealtimes are community moments, shared and warm. For boarders, the evening brings study time, recreation, and a structured bedtime routine that ensures everyone gets the rest they need.

Boarding Life

Boarding at St. Athanasius is not simply a housing arrangement. It is a way of life, and for many of our children, it is a transformative one.
Our boarding community is home to children aged 7 to 18, coming from different parts of Uganda, different family backgrounds, and different life experiences. What they share when they arrive at St. Athanasius is the chance to be part of something steady, caring, and good

Safety and Security
Our boarding facilities are safe, secure, and carefully supervised around the clock. Clear safeguarding procedures help protect every child, while trained boarding staff are always available to respond promptly and appropriately to any concern. Parents can feel confident knowing their children are cared for in a safe, supportive, and well-managed environment.
Matrons
Our matrons are at the heart of boarding life and play a vital role in every child’s wellbeing. They are there at the start of each day and again in the evening, ensuring every child feels comfortable, settled, and cared for. Whether a child is unwell, homesick, anxious, or simply needs encouragement, our matrons provide warmth, guidance, and reassurance whenever it is needed.
Friendships That Last
Living and learning together every day helps children build strong and lasting friendships. Our boarders grow up side by side, sharing experiences, overcoming challenges, celebrating successes, and supporting one another along the way. These close bonds often continue long after school, with many former boarders remaining lifelong friends and speaking fondly of their time at St. Athanasius.

Arts, Music, and Drama

The performing arts are a vibrant and cherished part of life at St. Athanasius. Children of all ages are encouraged to explore their talents through music, dance, drama, and performance. Annual productions, concerts, and cultural events provide exciting opportunities for students to showcase their abilities while bringing families and the wider school community together. Through the arts, children develop creativity, confidence, teamwork, and self discipline, gaining skills and experiences that support their growth both inside and outside the classroom.

Sports and Play

Physical activity is an essential part of a healthy childhood, and it plays a central role in life at St. Athanasius. Our sports program includes football, netball, athletics, and a variety of team and individual activities for different age groups. Through sport, children learn teamwork, resilience, discipline, and respect while enjoying the benefits of regular exercise. We also value unstructured play, giving children time to explore, create, laugh, and simply enjoy being children.

Spiritual Life

Faith is woven into daily life at St. Athanasius and helps shape the character of our school community. Through devotions, chapel services, religious instruction, and the example set by our staff, children are encouraged to develop a strong moral foundation and a deeper understanding of their faith. We create an environment where questions are welcomed, values are lived out, and every child has the opportunity to grow spiritually with confidence and purpose.
